Zodiac Traits; Gemini is a Mutable Air sign, ruled by Mercury. As the third sign in the zodiac, Gemini is an energetic, charismatic, communicative, witty individual with a child-like fascination with the world and with new experiences. Famous and historical characters sharing this sign include John F. Kennedy, (May 29), Marilyn Monroe (June 1), and Judy Garland (June 10).
The Gemini personality stands out as the zodiac sign that knows something about just about everything, making them good conversationalists and interesting acquaintances. They are inquisitive and quick to digest new information and ideas. Intelligent and logical, but with a lot of nervous energy, Gemini likes to keep busy and expand their horizons whenever opportunities arise, often multitasking between several interests. However, as the sign of the Twins, there is a dual aspect to the Gemini personality, making it difficult for these individuals to stick with any one thing in order to master it, and often making it difficult for bystanders to figure out which side their Gemini friend is really on. Gemini has more than one personality, which can change in a flash, and those near to them would do well to learn them both. On and off, up and down, back and forth, black and white, day and night, ying and yang - this is the essence of the Gemini personality.
Because of his/her superior communication skills and innate charm, Gemini usually does well at work, with others often seeking them out for advice and new ideas. Conversely, the Gemini worker will not hesitate to seek others out for advice and ideas, always striving to stay on top of the information chain. When interested, Gemini can accomplish more in a day than other signs can accomplish in a week. When disinterested, however, the Gemini worker will procrastinate and eventually move on to more interesting pursuits. No surprise then, that Gemini tends to change jobs and even careers several times during his/her lifetime. The Gemini's office will have lots of communication devices including computer, phone, Blackberry, cell, and a Rolodex full of names, and he/she will constantly be networking and seeking out new connections. These same traits will also cause the Gemini to tend toward gossip, so if you want to hear the dirt on others, seek out your Gemini co-worker. Gemini can function well in almost any job capacity that he/she finds interesting, especially those that require lots of communication and interaction with others. With Gemini in a boss or leadership position, however, watch for a strong secretary or assistant that follows behind picking up pieces and finishing undone projects.
If you have found a romantic partner in a Gemini, you have a young at heart lover who wants to try new things and is always looking for a new adventure. The Gemini partner will need a quick wit, and the capacity to change directions on a moment's notice. Gemini will frequently test their partners for loyalty and commitment, so try to keep jealousy and anger at bay, because although the challenge at hand may look like it is external, it is often a situation generated by Gemini himself/herself as a test of your commitment. Additionally, while Gemini is often animated and fun, within a short time this can change to brooding and isolation, so learning when to back off completely is important in this relationship. If Gemini becomes bored within the relationship, he/she will almost certainly move on, often with no concept of the devastation he/she is causing, so keeping it fresh and alive over the long term is crucial to holding on to a romantic relationship with a Gemini.
The best matches for Gemini for sure are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, but Aries, Cancer, Taurus, and Leo might also work for some individuals. It will likely be tough going for Virgo and Pisces, which are the least compatible with Gemini. Gemini in any relationship is smart, witty, fast, and fun. They are the life of the party and have a lot of acquaintances. They seek out others who are smart and adventuresome, and will become quickly bored with those who are homebodies or content with the status quo. Gemini wants to see the world, experience everything, and literally "learn something new every day." He/She will be a fun and fascinating companion, but some may see him/her as superficial and "two faced" because his/her goal is to charm everyone all of the time. On good days, he/she will be charming and gracious, but on bad days he/she can be moody and even cruel. Remember, with Gemini, the by-word is "changeable," so learn to expect anything! Behavior; Sunshine and marigolds are the first two things to come to mind for most when talking or describing the rather rambunctious Gretchen. With a rather bubbly attitude in general, she is often found smiling and laughing even in the bleakest of times, being optimistic to the core though inside, within her mind, she is often a cynic, mocking the words of hope and faith always spurting from her lips.
A push over since childhood, Gretchen often avoids confrontation by backing down even when she is indeed right within her actions mostly because she hates to be a disappointment or problem. Gretchen often has a problem of putting her own needs and her own life behind her to help those around her because she under-values herself. To say she isn't aware of her own kindness and sweet nature would be an understatement, within Gretchen's own mind, she may as well be the devil himself.
Though sheltered and hardly worldly, Gretchen is a quick learner and a rather good person to have when in crisis. She is very level headed, quick upon her toes and doesn't allow panic to grip her most of the time. This can often be connected to her fear of crying, having been one since birth to cry little to never, often bottling up and suppressing her own feelings from being ashamed of them, even if they aren't of a dirty or detrimental nature. Anger, rage, sadness - these are all emotions in which no one truly gets to see out of her often if ever.
It is said that some people put walls upon their hearts and around their minds, Gretchen very much does this. Letting people in is something she isn't capable of - often trying but failing miserably. She is somewhat unaware of how cut off she can be mostly because she is friendly and kind, listens to all and isn't afraid to converse with people. However, she isn't necessarily open about her feelings and thoughts.
Most think or assume they truly know her however since she barley knows herself, this isn't possible. Only one in a great while does someone get in and normally when it happens, its because she has fallen in love if she knows it or not.
When considering her sense of humor, it often varies though she prefers the comedy stiles of George Carlin & Eddie Izzard. If she is over tired, everything around her can indeed be giggle worthy however when wide awake, jokes hardly make her laugh though she generously sport a smile and a small 'ha' to someone to make them feel better. History; There are two sides to the childhood of Gretchen Bauer, the school and public side, and then her home life. It wasn't until she was much older that she realized the separation was so odd, however, as a child she was nothing but happy and never minded these facts. The public side was basic, normal. She did well in school, excelled even. She was popular but not too popular, nice to everyone and usually could be found smiling and singing as she bounced about. She was a good kid, most thought well of her. She didn't get into trouble and she didn't keep to herself too much either. She was normal and in truth, that fact alone, is an amazing one. Because while her public life was normal, her home life was anything but.
With two parents from Eastern Germany who were both historians, Gretchen was raised in a very strict environment. Neither of her parents believed in television, they didn't believe their children should listen to the stuff that was on the radio either. They believed reading was important, they believed that their children should speak not only English but German as well. Homework was always done right away, chores were endless, learning and being taught lessons was never ending. Her parents weren't cross or rude but rather they expected each child to be the next Albert Einstein, a fact that was not about to play out for any of the Bauer children though all three were indeed above average when it came to grades.
Childhood like this was simple, nice, easy. Teen years like this however were hell. Wearing what was in style became a challenge, joining sports and activities was a stretch. Gretchen for a lot of her teen years felt troubled due to the separation. She couldn't bring friends home, she couldn't let people meet her very weird parents. She often felt separated from everyone which she didn't appreciate. She became resentful of her home life, she became resentful of her friends who could go to the parties and live a normal life while she had to be in early and do what was asked of her at all times. It wasn't fair. And so with teen angst, Gretchen found an outlet she never suspected would work for her - she turned to writing.
At first it was a diary but soon writing too on a life of it's own. Diaries became short stories and poetry, poerty and short stories became a novel. By her senior year it was clear that Gretchen had a voice and it needed to be heard. She was accepted into NYU where she studied journalism and creative writing. She got her first job on the school news paper, writing a small column that later became picked up by a small independent paper. By the time graduation came around she had a job writing a 'how to' for a woman's magazine. Her pieces aren't big, it's just a small column, but she likes what she does and likes the fact it pays for her to stay in Irvington, NY.
As for Gretchen's teen angst? Most of it as passed with age. She loves her parents and is close to them though still to this day wishes they were more normal. She hates that she still isn't allowed to speak English when she visits them. Just like she hates how they always ask if she's working on a novel, how they mention going back for her master's always, and then proceed to ask why she doesn't bring a nice German boy home, why she doesn't get married to a scientist and have more German babies to grow up into German Albert Einsteins. # OF FACTS #01; Gretchen has an intense fear of snakes & needles. She has been known to faint or puke at the site of either. She is also uncomfortable with the site of Blood. #02; Gretchen dreams of one day being a published novelist. She believes that if she becomes published then her father will be able to live vicariously through her. #03; Gretchen suffers from a missing sweet tooth. She doesn't necessarily like candy or baked goods that much. She prefers vegetables and fruit or REALLY greasy food. #04; If she had a choice between an amazing first kiss and an amazing conversation, Gretchen would easily choose the second. #05; Gretchen prefers falling in love to being in love. Most of her relationships fail after a couple months due to the passion and rush beginning to fizzle. #06; Musically Gretchen is complex. She listens to almost every genre but prefers jazz, old rat-pack, and classic rock. #07; The Truth About Cats & Dogs is easily Gretchen's favorite movie. She enjoys how Ben Chaplin falls in love really with Janeane Garofalo even though Uma Thurman is his eye candy. #08; Gretchen has read over five hundred books in her lifetime. She began reading at the age of seven, a late bloomer, but was reading and understanding Moby Dick by age eleven. #09; Gretchen secretly dreams that one day a man will call her out on all her crap. That he will see her for her and find the truth more interesting then the lie. #10; Though addicted to shopping, Gretchen tends to wear the same ten pieces over and over. She finds those pieces reliable and comfortable. #11; Though allergic to cats & dogs, Gretchen still loves both to the point that as a teen she received allergy shots daily just to keep her cat Puma. #12; Is addicted to the board game monopoly. She often spends most of her time playing online or with anyone she can talk into playing. Her family officially hates the game because of this. #13; An addict to coffee, Gretchen spends a lot of her time in coffee shops pretending to read or write on her laptop - instead she simply studies people. #14; Gretchen finds that intellectual men stimulate her more then handsome men... and yet she never dates the intellectual guy in fear of him hurting her. She instead dates the rather stupid handsome men because she knows they can't hurt her. #15; Gretchen is not a beach bunny. She does not long for beaches and wearing a bikini but she also absolutely hates snow. Her dream location would be Ireland or England, somewhere that rains often. FRIENDS & FAMILY
